Richard Weston (1953-) is an American painter attached to the abstract illusionist movement of the 1970s with Frank Stella and James Havard. This aesthetic focused primarily on shading, creating drop shadows around expressive abstract forms and brushstrokes in such a way that gives the illusion of three-dimensionality (or “trompe l’oeil” effect) paired with strong lines and edges.
